Default Valve covers leaking

I just finished my H/C/I swap and am working some of the bugs out. Both of my valve cover gaskets are leaking. I know you shouldnt have to put a lot of torque on the bolts to get it to seal but no matter what i did there was still oil leaking. I was using fel pro cork gaskets. I have everything apart again and am going to be putting the set of gaskets that came with my valve covers on but i was wondering if anyone has ever used a little bit of silicone on them to help them seal or if there are some type of valve cover gaskets that are better that i dont know about. Thanks

Yes, get the metal/rubber oe gaskets from ford. And if you're trying to use silicone w/ cork, forget it. Just makes the gasket squish out when you tighten it down.

when will people learn? if your going to use cork you need to use weatherstripping adhesive on one side, and permatex on the other. this way the cork will NOT move, and it will NOT leak. (and you just saved money for not having to buy rubber gaskets[8D]

who said anything about taking them off?

hell, my dad's 2300 4 banger would throw rocker arms all the time when he was beating on it. he had the gasket glued to the cover only, kept a large flathead screwdriver and a speedwrench in the trunk. when he'd blow a rocker off he'd pull over, yank the cover and pop the rocker back on, then slap the cover on again and be on his way. the whole ordeal would take about 5 minutes LOL

Kyle, my car had around 140K on it before I took the oe covers off to put the aluminum ones on it. The oe gaskets were still in good shape and not leaking. So yeah, I put another set back on. OE always FTW!!
