I searched and didn't seem to come up with a good answer. I just bought a 302 out of a 1993 F150. The specs say it has 185 horsepower. This is not the same engine thats in the crown vic is it? I know everything is different on that engine. I also know I need to change the intake, throttlebody and exhaust mani. Are the heads, distributorand everything else the same as a H.O.? I will probably put an E303 in it so the cam doesn't matter much. I got a good deal on the engine (it's going in my 89 mustang LX 4 banger), so did I screw up? I don't want another 'vic engine!! Thanks in advance!

What kind of deal did you get? Crate motors pushing over 300HP are not too expensive these days...

I paid 200 for it with accessories and an engine stand. I never heard it run, but he said it had about 100K on it. Pretty low miles and no oil leaks. he even gave me a mustang oil pan.

rebuild and stroke it...cam is what makes the big diff. in the non ho's i think...maby other little stuff, but that would be changed for performace stuff.

I have plans formore performance, but my budget will only allow so much right now. Is the firing order the same as the HO motors?

After doing some more research comparing parts on car-part.com and autozone, The heads and crank are the same. The firing order is not, it uses a different distributor. Can I replace the distributor with a HO unit? I plan on using a HO harness and computer from a mustang.

you need to change the cam also...im pretty sure of that...some1 will chime in and either confirm or deny.

The camshaft is what changes the firing order, not the distributor.

The distributor is different from a HO dizzy, but can I use it in a HO application?

I am not sure on the dizzy. I would guess you might have to change that as well because of where the TFI plugs into the wiring harness.
