idle problem, low power, and running hot
i messed up and put this thread in the new member forum. i have a 91 lx with a 347 stroker. it has a holley systemax, 70mm throttle body, bbk cold air intake, and bbk headers and exhaust. i bought this car as is. the car idles, but surges, it has low power and is running hot.
when i got this car the 1st problem that i had was the aod transmission burned up. while this was going on the engine ran hot and warped the heads.i have replaced the transmission with a C4 and removed the heads and had them repaired at a local machine shop. after reinstalling the heads, the car is still running hot. i don't know very much about this type of fuel system, so any help will be greatly appreciated.

RE: idle problem, low power, and running hot
How much did they shave the heads?
Did they magnaflux and crack check them?
Did you replace the thermostat?
Did you get the head gaskets on the right way. Gaskets are market top because of coolant passages?
Do you have any signs of water in the oil, oil in the water, or wet exhaust?
Is the waterpump working?
What about the condition of the radiator?
How long does it take to get hot?
When I had mine done they shaved too much off of the heads and the bolts bottomed out. Looked like they were torqued to spec but were not.

dont know exactly how much they shaved the heads, but i started out with a moroso electric water pump, removed it and replaced it with a stock water pump. after installing the first one found out that it was turning the wrong way. had to get a reversed pump. has a 160 degree thermostat. it has a brand new aluminum radiator. no water in oil, no oil in water, and no water from exhaust. made sure the head gaskets were on right. both sides had front wrote on them. it takes a while to get hot when driving, but it will get hot pretty quick setting still. has an electric fan on a toggle switch.
