87-88 had speed density and in 89 they came out with mass air. people say 89 cause it has mass air and had no air bags.

I was thinking the same thing... but I guess swapping over to Mass air is pretty easy... I was flipping through a Jegs the other day and found that the kit to do it from Ford racing is only $600 bux.

if you want to put heads or do head work, and change the cam. then yes SD will not be the choice for this car... mass air can handle a good amount of mod's with minimal tuning

you'll want mass air for its adaptive capabilties. any upgrades you will do will be adapted to. witht the sd you will have to have a chip burned everytime you do anything that will change the performance of your car or it will run really bad, and yes they do have a conversion kit so if you cant find a good deal on an 89 or later model than get the conversion kit. my 88 has been converted so its pretty common practice.
