Starter, 02, help plz!
I just bought a 89 Mustang GT manual this morning, and I have a few problems.
First off, when I brought the car home, it wouldn't start on it's own. So I ran out and bought a brandnew battery and charged it for a few hours. Then the car started fine and drove then when I turned it off, and tried to restart it, it wouldn't turn over. The only way my car starts is if it is jumped. The alternator is brand new, so I'm thinking it is the starter. I turn the key with the clutch in, and it makes one "click" noise.
Secondly, when the car is actually running the idle is really jumpy, I was told that an 02 sensor needed to be replaced, so I'm hoping that is all it is.
Help?

just because the alternator is brand new doesnt mean anything. i have bought some before and installed them and they never worked on the car. also make sure you cables are good and that you have a good ground. check the starter solenoid too.

Chances are if when you jump the car it starts everytime, your starter is ok.....For teh heck of it doulbe check your grounds. When it's running put a volt meter on your batery to see what the Alt is putting out for Volts. It could be just another bad Alt.

Diffeentally sound like a cable issue. Our car has a disconnect on the battery and if it isnt good and tight the car will do that. We then have to wiggle it and it fires up just fine. Replace the cables since they are the cheapest part to see if it helps.
