RE: anyone running a c-4 trans

I have a 1965 C4 in my 1990. I love it. The only problem I have with it is I need to find out a way to make the kick down cable work on it.

1BADASSLX 06-17-2007 01:10 AM

RE: anyone running a c-4 trans

do you have it hooked up??

1990mustanggt 06-17-2007 01:11 AM

RE: anyone running a c-4 trans

I took it to a trans shop and had it built. I told them I needed it to hold at least 500HP.

RE: anyone running a c-4 trans

yeah i wondered how to make a kickdown cable work to.. then i found the universal kit from lokar works great:Dmine has a pinto valve body tci street fighter 3200 stall an a b&m shift kit it will work till my 408 is done then im getting one from PA either the 750 hp or 1000 hp model:)

1990mustanggt 06-17-2007 01:20 AM

RE: anyone running a c-4 trans

Yeah I need that kick down bracket. I don't have one for mine. If I had that it would be a simple fix.

1990mustanggt 06-17-2007 01:22 AM

RE: anyone running a c-4 trans

I'm running the TCI 3500 with balooning plates and a 33 spline input shaft.

1BADASSLX 06-17-2007 01:25 AM

RE: anyone running a c-4 trans

yep, you can get that through cj pony parts in pa. and a kick down from lokar like thunderjet said or ebay has them too.. and o ya!! a c servo is a must for these trannys there the same ones from the 67 gt500 mustangs very nice its the nice shiny plate in the pic!!

my77stang 06-17-2007 01:27 AM

RE: anyone running a c-4 trans

the C4 in my II has i believe that exact same servo cause its purple. also has a tci streetfighter valvebody, edge racing 2800 stall converter, alto red eagle clutches w/ kolene steels, and a kevlar band. im running b&m synthetic trick shift and an aftermarket cooler as well as the radiator cooler. damn thing shifts like the business thats for sure.

1BADASSLX 06-17-2007 01:30 AM

RE: anyone running a c-4 trans

sweet thats what im looking for im building just about the same stuff you have but i havent picked out a stall yet, im still back and forth on tci breakaway or b&m what would you use im running a 331 with a f-cam, carbed,

thunderjet429 06-17-2007 01:32 AM

RE: anyone running a c-4 trans

the nice thing about the lokar kit is it works on a carb without the kickdown hookup:D

thunderjet429 06-17-2007 01:33 AM

RE: anyone running a c-4 trans

don't use a b&m convertor.. they aren't very good

1990mustanggt 06-17-2007 01:34 AM

RE: anyone running a c-4 trans

I can barely feel mine shift any gears due to the stall. I can feel it, and can tell that it's got a hard shift, but it's not a wheel chirper.

1BADASSLX 06-17-2007 01:37 AM

RE: anyone running a c-4 trans

ya thats what ive been hearin, even there shift kits are bad to from what i herd but thanx for the input man!

1BADASSLX 06-17-2007 01:38 AM

RE: anyone running a c-4 trans

realy do you have a shift kit? hell i want mine to cherp in all shifts lol.

thunderjet429 06-17-2007 01:38 AM

RE: anyone running a c-4 trans

[sm=gears.gif]oh mine shifts badass;)hold it to the floor it shifts at 6800 rpm:Di don't let it do that much

thunderjet429 06-17-2007 01:40 AM

RE: anyone running a c-4 trans

i like there shift kits.. ps without the kickdown hooked up you will eventualy burn up your trans... it has to do with line pressure.

Mine hits real hard. It does have a shift kit. It's just masked due to the stall. You can feel it shift if you take off real slow. It just doesn't chirp the tires.

thunderjet429 06-17-2007 01:45 AM

RE: anyone running a c-4 trans

mine stalls at about 3200-3300 rpm it chirps the tires if you take off normal if you get on it hard it has thrown the car sideways on dry pavement at 40mph when it kicksdown hooking the kickdown up made a huge difference;)

1990mustanggt 06-17-2007 01:48 AM

RE: anyone running a c-4 trans

Mine never chirps the tires, but I do need to adjust the vaccum module. It shifts out at like25 MPH when I take off slow.

thunderjet429 06-17-2007 01:50 AM

RE: anyone running a c-4 trans

the modulator valve will only make a couple mph one way or the other... trust me hook up the kick down and you will be amazed the shifts aare totaly different

yep it sure will :D

my77stang 06-17-2007 02:02 AM

RE: anyone running a c-4 trans

the tci streetfighter valvebody is basically a tci "stage II" shift kit but preinstalled. i figured if i was gonna have my trans done it would be better to have a nice fresh valvebody with the kit properly installed so the shop couldnt fugg it up.

definately check out edge racing, they will make your converter to your specs. a 2800 stall in my II is not going to be a 2800 stall in your fox. there are so many variables so an off the shelf unit really isnt gonna do ya right.

btw, i have a lokar kit that i installed briefly and i believe i dont need it any more. they are like 55-60 new, if you need it shoot me a fair offer.

I run a C-4 with a 3500 Hughes convertor and the forward pattern full manual shift valve body.
Works great..........
B&M stuff is total junk nowadays IMHO..........

Not to thread rob, but I have a question SORRY

I just got a 74 C4 tranny that I plan on putting in my 88 project stang. What do I have to do to make it work? Crossmember obviously, but how about a driveshaft? Is there a kit?

thunderjet429 06-18-2007 01:12 AM

RE: anyone running a c-4 trans

i used the origonal shaft out of the t5 behind my 4 banger, slotted the holes in the crossmember and used the same tranny mount:D
