Don't you need a seal puller to get it out, or would a scribe work? Have not had to replace mine yet.

I used a flat screwdriver before and I have also used a seal puller(screw in type)which is easier, but it isn't necessary

sometimes u cant get the seal out and the pan and crank have to come out...thats what the shop said. luckly i didnt have to do all that but we took the engine out anyways. i hate putting an engine in a car. even more when u got to line it up w/ the tranny!

lol, ive never seen one where u had to pull the crank and pan off to change the rear main seal.......the main seals off b/t the crank and the pan.....maybe one of those two piece things or something? but im pretty sure not on the 5.0's, youc an just use a punch/screwdriver and a hammer to take the old one out, be sure to put a SMALL amount of silicone on the new one, just enough to make like a skin around it

well a guy at the auto parts store that knows his stuff and has helped me before said there would be a slim chance to get it out.
