Default opinions please, simple motor build

i have been thinking and doing research but im still stuck, my current mods are listed below with 140,000 on the ticker. the gt40s are the iron ones....

i dont know weather to keep the original set up and start to build a seperate motor and use none of my old parts like heads, or to use the heads and build the internals. i was thinking about porting the gt40 but that cost money too. im looking to built me a good street car with good hp but i dont want to buy new heads if i dont have to, i have a feeling they are going to the the bottle neck in my plan though.

i would love to hear opinions because i just am not certain of what to do.

i make decent money but not enought to buy a supercharger, blow the motor and next week buy a new one. i have to plan in stages.

i have been doing alot of the same... from what i have read about motor mods and the power that i want the cheapest way seems to be a 351w. if you can do the swap then it seems to be by far a better plant to start with. it seems as though you will be needing a new motor anyways so why not do that.

myself i have done multiple tranny swaps but never pulled a motor out and am looking forward to the experience.

Don'r worry, none of us make enough money to blow a motor a week!!!!!!!!!
Plan carefully, use desk top dyno if you want to sort of ploan the whole combination.
Don't forget drivetrain/chassis up-grades in order to handle the new power........

desktop dyno is decent but dont go by that alone. the workmanship will decide how much power is lost or made. i just pulled the engine in my car last night for the second freakin time (first to rebuild, then yesterday to fix oil leak) and its a freakin pain in the ****! its really bad when u have had the car for a while, get it running then the rear main leaks...its running now...well one i get a new battery that pooped on me today! damnit lol

save up ur money for a stroker kit and put ur old heads and manifolds back on. yes they will be a restriction. but when u get the money for new heads, manifolds, you will want a bigger TB, MAF, injectors, fuel pump and regulator and guage. then while ur in there maby a new cam. but stroking it and putting ur old stuff back in will give ya some more hp and a building platform. new rods, rollers, gaskets, water pump, oil pump, you have to factor all that stuff in too. maby a s/c w/ ur setup + injectors, maf, fuel pump might be a good idea. that will make about the same hp as a NA 331 or 347.

when i did my cam swap i noticed that my engine was a 306 by the .030 scores on the top of the piston. i have NO idea when this was performed so im guessing that the motor and crank bearings have less miles on them than 140000 on them.

does anyone know what is normally involved with boaring a 302 to a 306???? does guys usually put forged internals?? and at what milage would a saine person perform a boar like that??

...........i know they are VERY broad questions but i have NO IDEA..........maybe there is a trend to a boar like the one i have.......

.030 over is very common, thats how much you take off the walls when u rebuild. a 331 is a 302 bored .030 and stroked. 347 is the same thing with more stroke. a 306 is just a bored 302. no they may have not put forged internals, maby but maby not. normally u would change all the bearings inside the motor. u need to find out how many miles is on that rebuild.
