my 5.0 gave up on me
yep i was taking on a roadtrip of 300 miles and on the 40th mile my valve noise started getting louder and louder i pulled over and it was a gonner smoke coming from the oil filler cap and dipstick overheated started smoking etc.
it barely passed the 170k mark and now its time for a new motor. I was thinking of doing a gt 40 and i found a 97 mountaneer complete motor. i know it will fit I have a question about the distributor i know the mountaineers come with no distrib. do i have to change anything to convert over to dist. and about the headers can i use the ones on it or do i need to replace them with aftermarket ones thx fellas.

RE: my 5.0 gave up on me
just put a chevy 350 in it like the other a-hole on here. J/K please don't. Your best bet is to do a sroker 331/347 with some nice heads, the gt-40 crate engine is too much money and the power is over rated.

nope i use 20-50, i bought it with 167k and it looked like it was overheated so im not too surprised. Do you guys think i can use the stock explorer headers to fit my mustang or do they sell a gt40p swap header??
