i just bought a 89 gt. how can i tell what gears are in it. it is a 5.speed. i dont want to put gears in it if the guy who had it before me did it already.

lift the back end... rotate the tire... count tire rotations/driveshaft rotations.... or... use the search feature...

jack up the rear end, and support on jack stands.
place the transmission in neutral.
make an alignment mark on the right rear tire, and on the driveshaft.

spin the right rear tire exactly one time, using the mark you made as a reference.
while spinning the tire, count how many times the driveshaft turns, also referencing the mark you made on the driveshaft.
just under 3 spins, 2:73's, just over 3 spins, 3:08 or 3:27's, etc etc
