RE: Whats to many miles on a 5.0 motor
200K on a fox mustang is not too bad as long as it is in good shape (Straight) and the price is right. Just plan on doing a resto on it after you get it. 200K on a 5.0 motor is getting high on the miles unless it was well cared for ( Regular oil changes and all that good stuff ) I seen some Small block ford motors last as many as 400K without any major issues. But at 300K it will leak everywhere and may even smoke a little. The 5.0 is a good motor that usually lasts 250K without too many problems. This depends on how the motor was treated and when buying a used motor you just dont know for sure.
My best motor to date was a 351W that had 385K on it before it seized. It seized because I accidently ran it out of oil. It was 2 quarts low (Rear main seal leaking ) and I was racing someone on the freeway. I basically pulled all of the oil out of the pan and ran the bottom end out of oil.
And the worst was a 289 that had 986 Miles after a rebuild. The oil pressure line to the pressure gauge broke when I was on the freeway doing 65. By the time I got stopped it had made 1/4" groves in the cylinders and busted 3 pistons.
There are a lot of 302's running around with 300K miles or more that just wont die.

RE: Whats to many miles on a 5.0 motor
I remember one of the mags ( MM and FF or one of them) stating that the 5.0 with the highest true mileage that they ever encountered was around 600K miles. I have seen a 338K in person. In terms of what I would buy, I'd buy a 200K 5.0 if it was clean as stated above. These things go through all the use and abuse in the world. It is really funny when you take into context when the Toyota owner goes, my car is reliable, it has made it to 130K miles and still going strong
