here's the prob, I have an original manual trans on my 86 5.0 and prob needs new fluids but right now I can only put it into reverse when the engine is off due to the fact that when its on and I try to put it in reverse it only want to grind and the fly wheel ( not sure if thats the right term) wont slow down one bit to put it into gear. Is it the clutch, tranny fluid or syncros?

your reverse doesnt have a syncro.....my friends t-5 does the same thing

trying putting it into 5th gear first then into reverse.
that would always line up everything for me and let it go into reverse
or your clutch might be going bad too.

try going into 4th and then reverse you shouldnt have a problem doing that.

Mine used to do this, until I replaced the cable, then again I don't think I have a T-5. Still trying to figure out all the parts on my stang.

get under the car and take a picture of the tranny and post it up, we'll tell you if its a t-5 or not.....im willing to bet it is

When I bought it off the previous onwer they just replaced the transmission (His kid got one to many tickets in it).
