wheel size affecting launch?

wheel size affecting launch?
i've been hearing that an 18 inch rim will affect performence especially in launching.
is this true and are there any other disadvantages to a wheel that big?
i ask this cause in the future i will be getting the boyd coddinton smoothie II and in my personal opinion it looks better in 18 inches.
if its true that it effects launch in a negative way, would that still be true if i added aftermarket upper and lower control arms and some drag springs?
thanks for any and all input

RE: wheel size affecting launch?
see you wont have as much sidewall and finding slicks to fit wont happen so youll have to run DRs which will be more then the guy running 15s. for racing your want a good sidewall so it can wrinkle. also larger rims weigh more then smaller ones thus creating more rolling resistance. good chance youll slow yoru car down a bit

Yes, plus from a start it takes a little longer to get that big of a wheel moving, as opposed to a smaller wheel, also dragging down your 60ft... Can you even get drag radials for 18" rims?

You know, I have the 16's on my 91, but I like the look of the 15's on them better.. I think I am going to downsize within the next year. Just the opposite of what everyone else is doing

RE: wheel size affecting launch?
heh. i just found out that the smoothie twos are like $1500 for a set anyways[:'(]
and those are the only 18 inch rims i'd ever go with...
so yeah i guess i'll be keeping the rims stock and i'll just get some good rubber for street driving and some wrinkle wall stickys mounted on weld draglites that i can just mount on for the day at the track.
if i DO keep the stock rims it'll create a little bit of a sleeper effect anyhow which could probably be enjoyable.
