Default 87 bronco motor

My friend just pulled a 87 bronco motor out of a bronco before giving it to a junk yard is the motor a HO? I want to put it in my mustang and I was wondering if it is a HO and if its a hydralic roller cam in it. It got a (not sure how long ago)newly fresh rebuild on it. Thats why I want to buy it. This why I know it will last allittle longer than the motor thats in my 89 now. Its 30 over and clean. its a 302 by the way or it was a 302..

Should be a roller cam, but I doubt it is a H.O. If it is anything like the 5.0 I pulled from the 87 LTD I'm using to build my new motor it is most likely the same as the 86 H.O. flat top pistons and E6 heads. But ifyour freind had it boredhe should know if it is a roller cam and what piston head combo is on it I would hope.

My dad had an 85 Bronco with a 351 in it and I remember it said H.O. on the air filter cover, not sure what the 302 was though.

The truck 5.0's are not H.O's like the mustang is. They run the NON HO firing order and should be flat tappet cams. It should have the E7 heads as the 5.0 HO heads are truck heads. I wouldn't see a problem with usingthe long blockin a mustang if you were to swap in an HO spec cam (flat tappet would be just fine), and the proper oil pan/pick up.

I plan on getting it and just using it as a long block. Those heads and stuff are probably in better condition then mine so. I will just put in a better cam though. If its flat tappet can I turn it into a hydro roller?

You can chang it to a roller cam, but you can't use stock lifters for a 5.0 HO. You would haev to get lifters for retrofitting a non roller block.
