Default Head Gasket

O.K I really feel stupid to have to ask this but I want to make sure its 100% right. I put the drivers side on it says front so put front to the front, the passager side is exactly the same. Is it just supposed to be upside down? I also noticed that they will block either front or rear coolant passages, is this normal? I noticed in the pics that they look the same but want to be sure cause I don't want to have to do this again.

My head gaskets blocked my coolant passages so i trimmed them. I think this is done so that they fit multiple applications - not sure.

you guys crack me up. the gaskets regulate the flow of where its going, if you start cutting holes in the gasket your gonna have water flowing where its not supposed to which could cause water to not properly flow thru any given area. basically you could be creating a hot spot.

and yeah, the gaskets are the same, you flip one over (the gasket doesnt know which way is up when its squeezed between two pieces of metal

+1 [&:]

Also, +1 flip them. If you have felpros, the directions tell you to do that.

Don't cut holes in your gaskets...

They're like that so water flows either in the back of the head and forward then out the front(plus up from the block's water jackets) in standard rotation systems, or in the front of the head and out the back(and down into the block's coolant jackets) in reverse rotation. Like my77stang said, it's about controling coolant flow, otherwise you may get a few cylinders that get stagnant flow and run hot
