Labor could be anywhere from $250-500 if the shops around you really wanna screw you over. My car is at the shop right now getting 4.10's installed. Labor was $240 and I paid $250 for the FRPP gears , yukon master kit and all the other misc. stuff through my work.
it seems really easy to do this yourself. i haven't ever done it but how come more people aren't doing this kind of thing themselves. are there expensive tools needed?

You just need to know what youre doing- how to set backlash, gear meshing, etc. The only tool I know ofthats needed is a dial indicator.
