Fuel Pressure low ???

Fuel Pressure low ???
Guys,
Car smelt real rich the last week or so, I put a gauge up to the schrader valve and was getting 32 psi w/ vacuum off. High 20's connected. I was thinking this would cause a lean condition but plugs look good? Is the computer compensating for low fuel pressure?
Anyhow, whats the most likely culprit? I'm thinking weak fuel pump(original), it has a lil bit of a whine to it. I'm thinking of going with the 255 Summit in tank pump. In a few weeks I'll get anAeromotive FPR, and a 0-100 psi gauge. Motor is bone stock.
Any recommendations, or suggestions? Appreciate it [8D]

RE: Fuel Pressure low ???
It could be a weak pump. Normally the computer could keep up with it with long term fuel trims. But only up to a certain extent. If I recall correctly, the range is 25%, which I think is +/- 12.5% to either side. You may want to double check on that though.
Anyway, I would check your regulator first, since it's quick and easy to check, and a lot quicker to replace if you need to. It's about a 5 minute job to replace it. First check the vacuum line to see if there's any fuel in it or if it smells like fuel was in it recently. It's not uncommon for the diaphram to rupture. If you have access to one, you may want to even try swapping it out with a known good regulator. Again, since it's such a quick swap it shouldn't be too much of a problem.
Then again, if the pump is getting louder, that's usually not a good thing and is a fairly good sign that sokemthing isnt right

RE: Fuel Pressure low ???
I can pull the regulator off of my buddy's car and try that before I ordera pump.
So the computer will increase duty cycle of the injectors to compensate for low pressure? But only to an extent, i follow you. The car runs fine, no problems, just noticed it smelt real rich so the paranoid guy I am, I looked into it and found this out. Thanks
