Do you mean tensioner pulley at the top of your engine?

are we all talking about the same thing here? i think he is talking about the bolt that holds the tensioner assembly onto the bracket, and not the bolt that holds the pully to the tensioner. or am i confused about what he is trying to do.

I assume the idler is the pulley and not the tensioner.

+1 blwn93gt. Unless he has some different kinda set-up & actually has a idler-(stationery) Pulley, not the tensioner. Needs to be more specific!

There is an easy way to determine this with ANY idler on ANY car. The direction that the pulley turns while the engine is running is also the direction that tightens the bolt. Otherwise the bolt would have a tendancy to back out.

So... If the pulley runs counter-clockwise, clockwise loosens the bolt.

i'm talkin about the bolt that holds the pulley on the tensioner. i have a new pulley on the way and thought i heard somewhere that the bolt is reverse threaded.
