Default 2.3L 5 speed

Ok, I tried searching and could not find anything. I have a complete 1991 mustang with the 2.3L and manual and was wondering what can I use from this to do a auto to manual conversion on my 5.0. I know the transmission will work if I switch out the bell housing but what else will I need? Any help would be great because I am going to the wrecking yard tomorrow to gather everything up. Thank You.....

As far as the tranny goes you will need a diff. bellhousing. The 5.0 & 4 cyl bell housings are the same. I had an 86 GT with a 4 cyl 5speed. It lasted for about a year, & may have lasted a little longer if I hadnt been so hard on it. Check out your crossmember also. Not sure if it is the same in the auto & manual. The driveshaft out of the 91 should work also. Get a new clutch for sure! I dont know much about the auto to man convert. but Im sure youll have the feed back soon. Good luck!

flywheel, clutch, clutch cable, fork, crossmember, really the only thing you can use is tranny and shifter, and the pedal assembly but need different quadrent

so the 4 cyl cross member wont work? I have already sourced out a couple 5.0's but some one has already removed the trannies from them so I guess the hard thing is finding the fork.

The crossmember from the 4 cyl. is a single hump one & wont work unless you are going to do a single exhaust, not recommended. You can get a fork for your clutch at an auto parts store or Ford dealer.

so I take it my auto crossmember will not work with the swap!

get a v8 tranny, the gear ratios in the 4 banger trans are horrible, you will also need to find the proper pilot bearing for that tranny..

not worth it IMHO.. you WILL kill the pos 4 cyl tranny

Its possible the crossmember from the auto. will work, but you may have tomake or modify a plate to get the member to fit properly to the tranny.

Have you ever done it or are you just doing what you've heard? Its really no weaker then the 5.0 t5. Powershifting and clutch drops are going to destroy it just like they destroy a 5.0 t5. Local guy runs a mustang with built motor and 200shot through 4 cyl tranny and for past 2 years w/ no problems. The only difference is the input shaft, gearing in it is a little lower but thats not a bad thing.

You will need a different pilot bearing: bca-202SS
If you can't find that part number its a pilot bearing for a 83 ranger with 2.2 diesal
