Default Anyone who has installed AFR heads

I was reading onAFR's website that they want you to use all of these certain gaskets from felpro. I bought a whole engine rebuild kit that uses felpro gaskets for a stock 302 rebuild, and was wondering if I could use the gaskets from the kit, or if I had to use the ones that AFR recommends.

I would use the ones they recommend, but you can call their Tech line and see what they say.

I forgot to mention that I am looking at the 165's. The main reason I am in question is that none of the other head manufactor's really say much about it. I mean, if the head design is different, I could see why, but other than that I would not really see why it would matter.

The other thing that scares me about AFR, I have emailed their sales department twice, and go tnothing back. I emailed trickflow, and I got a response within 30 minutes. If I am going to pay 1300.00 for a set of heads, I just thought I would get a response. [&:]

You should ask everyone whether you should get AFRs or Trick Flow Heads

Just kidding, that is the best fight on this forum....

Anyway...I have Twisted Wedge Heads and they tell you to run either of the following gaskets from Fel Pro:

Head Gaskets:
Fel-Pro 8548PT-2, street
Fel-Pro 1011-2, race

I did not listen and went with Cometic MLS gaskets because I am boosted...Iwould spend a few bucks on good head gaskets...good insurance....you might want to add a blower or some nitrous down the road!!!

Use the ones they recomend, they do that for a reason. My buddy brian blew 2 sets of head gaskets already this year, finally called AFr and got the recomneded ones.Try a phone call thats a bit more direct than an email. jmo

Ok, thanks for the help. I ordered this kit:

http://store.summitracing.com/partde...ew=1&N=700+

But they do not list what the part numbers of the gaskets are that come with it. Granted, I am sure that they are not what AFR recommends .

I am still going back and forth with the AFR's with a custom intake and whatnot, or the Trickflow kit that comes with everything. The AFR's would end up costing more with the gaskets they recommend, which is why I was asking .

I would call AFR and talk to them instead of wasting time emailing them, etc.

You will make more power with the AFR's and a custom intake/cam combination than you will with the Trick Flow kit. I have the 165's on my 91 and they are awesome. When I did the heads, upgraded the fuel pump to a 255lph, 24# injectors, FPR and a good tune, I went from a 14 flat 1/4 mile to a 12.7 1/4 mile.

Use the ones they recommend, stock gaskets will have ports smaller than those on the head, and if you install them it will put gasket material sticking out into the intake port and absolutely kill you for power from the turbulence. Same thing on the exhaust. Besides, the Fel Pro's they recommend anyway are good gaskets
