Default 9" Rear End

I am from Washington State. Anyone know of a good place to get a 9" rear end. I have called all the junk yards in the state and found only one for $650. Does that sound like a good price? If not, anyone know a good place to pick one up in WA, ID or OR. Thank you.

I have a good suggestion...

I've had 3 motors built in my life time, and all 3 were from different engine builders...and walking around their shops..I saw maybe ten 9" rears laying around. I think maybe you should call some local shops and see what they have laying around..I'm sure it'll be cheaper than a junkyard unless they will let you pull it yourself..

What does the 9" need to fit, there are hundreds of different applications, and the prices are gonna be different. If you just want a 9" to cut down for a Mustang, you should be able to find one for a couple hundred bucks,if you need one for a specific car the price will be higher.

650 is high and you'll have to move the purch and maybe have to cut it down and have the axles cut then you looking a 1000.00

you can find case for around a 100 or 2..gears are cheap....you should be able to have a gear of choice new axles the whole thing new for 650

I can't believe I didn't mention the car I was trying to find the rear end for. It is for a 1994 Mustang GT. It currently has a 9" (8.8)in it, so I am not sure what needs to be cut down. I know nothing about this... so you are speaking to an inexperienced mechanic (I actually have someone else doing the work, I just need to find the part). However, I thought that a 5.0 94 Mustang GT all came with a 9" as stock. The idea to call around to fix-it shops is a good one. THanks.

it's not a 9" in no respect....why do you feel you need one?...that 8.8 is tuff as hell there in f-150 get a carrier(posi unit)from a truck 31 spline and some axles

you'll be good to go...

if using the real 9" wake sure you have clearance with the gas tank

There is a world of difference between a 9" and an 8.8",all 87 and later Mustangs with v-8's have 8.8" rear axles. The 94 and later models have 5 lug axles, before that they were all 4 lug.Whats wrong with the one in your car,why do you need a new one?

Yeah, what he said... what's wrong with the one in there?

If you really need either a 9" or new parts for the 8.8" I'd suggest looking in the boonies - I live in Bellingham and the little towns around here are gems for finding stuff cheap.
My buddy just bought a chrysler 9.25" for his 73 Dodge complete with brakes, springs, and tires for $40. Of course the tires don't match and the yoke was banged up, but a new yoke and conversion u-joint was less than $80 and he's good to go. Now he needs to get shims since the axle was out of a 4x2 and the thing sits at the wrong angle.

Check the classified ads in the little towns - littlenickel.com, up in bellingham we've got www.echoads.com (that's echo ads, not e-choads)

Also check the Centralia/Chehalis area, Shelton, Enumclaw, etc.

OK, I was mislead then if there is a difference, one wrecking yard told me that an 8.8 was refered to as 9. I actually need a 8.8. Apparently the guy who had the car before me was very hard on it and has ruined the rear end (too many mods and too much racing). All I know is that my mechanic says I need a different one, and he is a very trustworthy mechanic. Something about a pin is slipping? Thanks.
