Default heating bolt questions...

ok, so I'm gonna try to heat the stripped tranny bolt tomorrow, dont have time today...

now after I heat the threaded end, do I wait for the bolt to cool then try to unbolt it, or do I do it while it is still hot?

wont contracting cause the bolt to loosen up?

thanks

you want to heat the part that the bolt is threaded into, not the bolt itself.
heat makes metal expand. you want to expand the threads, not the bolt.

Yeah, that. You want to heat the stuff around it, and then go for the bolt as quickly as possible (while the surrounding metal is still expanded).

ok, so I should heat the block where the bolt threads into. gotcha

then hook a socket to it and give her a crank?

called the auto parts store and they said pb blaster wouldt do a thing, just to try the heat first. I'll have to try tomorrow in that 2 hour gap between jobs... luckily I have all day long on thursday with nothing planned....

I'm striving to pull it on saturday.I hope I can pull it off

+1 i usually put a pair of vise grips on the bolt then take a torch to the area around the bolt and get it as hot as possible then yank on the vise grips so far its worked every time
