ROCKERS!!!!! ASAP
Ok, i hate to ask this question. Im new to mustangs, this is my first 5.0 rodeo. I've worked on TONS of cars, but never any serious stuff to 5.0's. Im Reasembling my motor. It intake was taken off, needed some gaskets. So im installing all the stuff, and the guy for some odd reason took off a few rockers. Well i go to installing them. I check the others and noticed that they are TIGHTEN all the way down. Now on a chevy, this is a NO NO. SO is this correct?? And if so anybody have the torque specs??
THANKS |
RE: ROCKERS!!!!! ASAP
There is a torque spec, I cant think of it off hand. I believe its something like 16 or 18 ft. lbs but dont quote me on that. Call your local Ford dealer ask to speak to a service advisor and ask em to look it up for you. Or you could run down to your local autozone and just buy a manual.

RE: ROCKERS!!!!! ASAP
They are pedistal mount rockers so they are just supposed to be tightened to 18-20 ft/lbs

RE: ROCKERS!!!!! ASAP
18-25 ft.-lbs torqued with the valve in the close position, but you need to make sure you obtain the .020" - .060" lifter preload, setting it at 0-valve lash and making sure you don't go past 1 turn of the torque wrench (I use 3/4 of a turn) to get the torque setting.

RE: ROCKERS!!!!! ASAP
Well i know why the previous owner never finished putting the car together. I went to tighten one of the rocker arm bolts, and it barely got snug and slipped. I pulled the bolt out and seen that it had pulled the threads out of the head.
SO what do you guys recommend? Pulling the damn head, and replacing it. Helicoil it Tap it and use a bigger bolt??? I hope i dont have to pull the damn head!! |
RE: ROCKERS!!!!! ASAP
helicoil the damn thing;)
