85 lx coupe, build ideas
so i am looking to get into the high 10's-mid 11's. but i want to use a 351 based engine and a weiand supercharger or N/A???? no idea. and of course it will be carbed, as this is in a 85 lx coupe 5 speed. i was wondering if anyone had some input on what heads, valvetrain (i want a high revver if possible), and tranny (thinkin a six speed), and either 357 or a 393.i dont want to go bigger than a 393 as i want a reliable street car. so what do you guys think for me?
i will be doing a full suspension also. 90/10 and 50/50 shocks. and adjustable LCA and solid UCA. and a nice sticky tire on a light tough rim.
what else for rear end and axles?

RE: 85 lx coupe, build ideas
Id say a 408W with some AFR 185-205's on it with maybe around a .590-.610ish cam. Then the usuals (vic jr intake, Demon carb., etc.) and a C4 with a tranny break. For the rear, moser axles, a spool and some 4.10's and i would have to say, that should get you into the low 11's high 10's in a light car with the right suspension. And maybe then throw a 100 shot on it. That should be enough to make your ***** tingle.
a 408 is plenty streetable. And a high revving motor, ehhh, i wouldn't go that route. I mean why rev to like 7K+ when you can make power all day at a more managable 6,500ish. And the 408 is going to do that, i got a good friend i work with with a 89' and he races this thing night and day, he just got a 408 in it with about that set up i just listed, the thing twisted so hard off the launch, he busted his windshield [sm=hail.gif] Shortly thereafter the track told him not to come back without a better cage, he had a 4-point. So we had to fab up from subframe connectors and then tied his cage into them (thats a job).
But a 408W is the way to go

making it a 357 and 393 are two totally different things, you could also do many more things for suspension

i want to stay manual, and no 408.

10s are nothing for a 351 n/a
393
200+cc head ex: AFR 225
10.5:1 cr
custom cam
pro-systems carb
proper suspension
4.10-4.30's
i personally wouldn't go the 6spd route. i have heard of people losing 20+rwhp at the wheels from going from a 5spd to a 6spd. If u want consistancy go with an auto and a nice stall with it
