Tranny problem
Ok lets start by saying its great to see so many knowledgable people here.I have a tranny that shfts through all gears fine, clutch is good still sticks pretty well.Now my problem is reverse. It goes in and then will move but it sounds like a grinding noise and then will not move at all.......any suggestions besides not using reverse. Im hoping not to rebuild it, so please help.Im a new mustang owner so I would like this to be a good expeirience. Thanks guys.

yeah pull the tranny something broke!!! I can rebuild these in my sleep but if you can't do it your self then buy a new one a tranny shop will usually cost as much to rebuild it as a new one costs!!!!

kick me in the ***** ehh??? Just how do you think the reverse idler gear can be accessed through osmosis???? if you got grinding do you really think something inside will look pretty?? drain the fluid first and look for metal particals in the fluid

yes it's a t-5 tranny if it's in a fox body mustang from 83-95 so reverse is on a seperate gear it is also a non sincronized gear if you hear grinding and all the other speeds/ gears are fine then most likely it's an internal problem. sorry to say but you'll need to pull the tranny after examining the fluid for metal particals. even if the fluid looks fine sounds as if you'll still have to pull it apart. If I lived close to you I usually charge people less than 500.00 to rebuild them. plus the cost of parts.

the reverse collar is on a seperate shaft, the gear itself is on the countershaft(shaft with 5 gears made onto it), you have to replace the whole countershaft as an assembly, and you have to take the center shaft with your synchro's and everything out before you can get to it. There'll be nothing left to your case basically when you get down to your reverse gear.
