Hey fellow stang members, I need some help...

I just replaced my starter, ground cables, starter relay, fender mounted ect and when I start the car the starter stays on and doesn't stop running. The ignition doesn't stick, but if I tap the relay it will stop the starter and be fine. I have replaced the relay 3 times and same problem everytime, starter just wont quit running after I start it..

Horrible sound to hear, a starterrunning while the motor is...

Any help would be greatly appreiciated, i dont wanna burn this starter up....

Have you bypass the ignition switch, and tried the screwdriver trick, does it do the same thing. my guess would still be the ignition switch.

You mean the screw driver trick where you bridge the relay to get the starter to jump?

Yeah, I have done that and the starter doesn't keep running like it would if i turned the key. I thought it might be the switch but wouldn't that mean that when you turn the key it would stick a little? I can literally turn the key, and the starter will start the motor but the starter wont stop running even if i turn the engine off and take the key out....lol

If it were me, I would get a new ignition and try it, it sounds to me like the ignition switch will not shut off.

no your key won't stick when talking about replacing the ignition switch as the other members mentioned they don't mean the lock and tumbler set up . down on the colum lower half the ignition switch is attched there. all the lock and tubler do is push a rod that is attached tho the ignition switch. the contacts inside are probably melted/ fused together

You can always install a push button start. Just run the wire from a circuit that the ignition has to be on to get voltage.(So nobody can just jump in and start it.) Just a thought

I would love to have a push button start but I would have no Idea how to install it...

I'm going to get the new ignition switch tommorrow and try that see what happens... I will get back to you guys and let you know whats up... I super appreiciate all your comments....THX

I am curious of the problem. That has happened to me a couple of times and it was always the syliniod(my spelling is awesome lol). Keep up posted.
