if it had any mod, even just welded cams which is popular on those motors, it will be quicker than a stock 5.0
you could get those with a 5 speed for a few years

They are only 3.0L engines, but they are rated at 220 HP (not too shabby) but only 200 tq and it's not even making that until it hits 4800 RPM. It weighs in at just over 3300lbs. Stock for stock you shoiuld have no problems. But if you're still stock (and it looks it) and if he has anything done, then you're probably screwed.

most sho's were manuals. the earlier models wernt to fast but the later v8 cars were pretty quick.
the 1986gt made 200hp stock and weighed about 100 pounds less than the early sho's. its entirly possiable that you were beaten. ive seen way more tbirds get creamed by sho's but a slow stang wouldnt surprise me.

they are yamaha motors and if you've ever seen one internally the damn thing is like a overgrown motorcycle motor (in design).

My 02 Taurus has to much torque steer, but I have to admit the 3.0 24v DOCH engine does get up and go.

My folks have a '98 and a '99 both with the DOHC motors. And for what they are they scoot pretty good.

So in actuality, youre in a heavier or just as heavy car with less HP and youre surprised that you got beat?

Not quite, after 95' the only DOHC V6 was the duratec which is a porsche, cosworth and ford effort. The DOHC V6 found in the 89-95 SHO is a total Yamaha built engine. The 5SPD SHOs were only during the 89-95 models. 96-99 was the introduction of the V8 SHO with only an automatic available for it. Also the 89-95 MTX SHOs are considered the quicker of the two SHOs. Any more SHO or taurusquestions and I would be glad to anwser.
