Are They Ford Racing Gears?
I just bought a set of new 3.73 gears from a guy online. I told him that I would buy them if they were Ford Racing gears. My question is there any way to tell the difference between the name brand gears and "off" brand gears? I did not see anything on the gears to identify them so I don't know if I got what I paid for!
If there is no way or it turns out that they are a off brand, what difference is there between the two in reliability, performance, etc?

tell him to take a picture of the pinion head, it should be stamped on there from the factory. if he doesnt want to tell him to shove the pinion up head first. its easy to identify this. also, be careful when buying used gears, they might be worn in the wrong places and shouldnt be used. if they are in good condition then go for it. just dont go blindly into the night.

the newer ford racing gears are backcut which means they are lighter, thats rotational mass mind you so that can save some power. you also want to look at the gear ratio, what is the gear ratio hes selling? i would be weary...

i dont have ford racing and gears and the power loss is only a concern for cars making 1000 HP and want to squeeze every ounce outta the weight reduction. as long as they are NOT used and if they ARE used make sure the wear on the gears is acceptable, take them to a shop to inspect it.

there deff worth installing since you already bought them. just give them a good inspection. There are opinions of diff name brands but you bought them to install them right. You could always re-sell them, but thats where a little bit of homework comes in before you buy. although buying from ebay sometimes you see a good deal with 5 min remaining what do you do!
