just for another opinion, the tech guys at Strange Engineering where I bought my 9" Ford rear end recommend that I not use synthetic gear lube as the company that makes their gears (U.S. Gears) has done a lot of testing and found that regular petroleum based lube works better than synthetics to minimize gear wear. and with a spool I don't need that stinking friction modifier either.

When I did my rear end, I used 75W-140 Full Synthetic Motorcraft, caus eit was laying around the shop and it's used in all the modern 8.8s... That stuff is liquid gold and $30 a bottle.
