Help me choose exhaust system

Help me choose exhaust system
I have a 90 vert 5.0 LX and I want more power and a deeper exhaust tone. Currently running totally stock. I am looking for a deeper tone and of course a power gain. I was thinking of doing high flow cats and flow master 40's. I like the stock tale pipe look and want to keep that stock. I want headers as well but i understand that is a big job.
How much to r&r the cats and mufflers at your average shop?
what kind of tone difference might i expect?
thanks for the help

RE: Help me choose exhaust system
hey i got a custom exhaust done a a shop with a high flow cats and flows and an x pipe for $632 but man was it worth it and it made a hige *** difference. it sounded like a nascar and all my buddies wood tell me that it didnt sound like any other mustang around. it sounds nice as hell even when im driving it. but an x pipe will give u more power with a lower tone and an h pipe will give u less power but have a more muscle car sound. a lot of it is preference cause everyone is gonna tell u something different
im gettin a new exhaust tho with long tubes so i wont need my custom one any more. if ur interested pm me.

Flows are too loud. It's anoying.[&:] It comes off as a bit childish, like some crappy fartmobile Honda, with a coffee can on the back, that does 17 second 1/4 ,mile times...
Besides, Dynomax Ultraflos, and Borla have the strait through design that WAY outflow 40 series. And they don't crush your head on long drives.
Here's a quote from the Dynomax website. The Flowmaster tested is the 40 series.
The DynoMax brand’s dynamometer-proven performance advantage can be seen in recent side-by-side testing of Ultra Flo (No. 17263), Borla (No. 40600), Edelbrock (No. 5511), and Flowmaster (No. 42540) mufflers. The DynoMax Ultra Flo muffler delivered 1,000 cubic-feet-per-minute flow, compared to 846 CFM for the Borla, 579 CFM for the Edelbrock, and 352 CFM for the Flowmaster units, respectively.1
In addition to ultra-high-flow muffler designs, DynoMax offers complete cat-back exhaust systems engineered to reduce system backpressure. Each cat-back system features all-mandrel-bent tubing that delivers a consistent inside diameter to eliminate unwanted turbulence, particularly at bends.

BTW, I have a BBK Off Road H pipe 2.5" Fo' sale. $50 + shipping.

I have full exhaust including Borla catback and I love it. Very pricey but I couldnt live without it. HEADERS ARE NOT A BIG JOB, definitally easy to do. It can be done in a few hours because on a 5.0 the headers can come out trhough the top when you unbolt them, you DO NOT need to remove the engine or lift it or anything. Adding headers makes a big differance, it gave it a nice wistle to the exhaust tone.
