Default catalytic converter...cheap fix?

Well my car is making like a rattleing noise and the muffler center said Its my CC so I need to get new ones.

My dad said prob. around 400 bucks. I dont want to whip out the dough tho cause im cheap.

Can I just gut the converter and not have any problems? Daddy says I cant cause I need back pressure or my valves will be fried. is this true or not?

I've been running my 87 on gutted factory h-pipe cats sence I got it in 2000 no problems have even passed the tail sniffer with good o2 sensors. about 5lb less weight, free flow, and a little more rumble.

If that were the case most 5.0 owners would be screwed cause most of us have h or x pipes I don't believe in cats!!!

that is the case sometimes.....most of the time it is the catalyst broken up rattling around in your exaust system

I was just hoping for a cheap fix for him. I know I lost 6 of my 8 before I got a hi-flow pipe.

the stock converters dont have heat shields built onto them. the shielding is part of the undercarriage, built into the car.

anyway, you wont bend valves. there wont be a lack of back pressure unless you take the whole exhaust off and run open headers. then you will start messin stuff up.

Cats are very cheap to repair. All you need is a good solid broom handle or long metal bar.
