yep just like it says. the other day it started bouncing up and down(between 0mph and whatever it was supposed to be at) and finally today it just stopped working all together. Seems like an easy fix. any ideas on where to start? thanks a lot guys!

Check both ends of the speedo cable and the speedo gear at the trans for wear. Remove the gauge cluster and check things out. A wobbly speedo is usually a binding/dirty cable. Theres a possibility it snapped inside if its not working at all. Anything is possible.

my dad just told me his '82 stang did that and he had to grease up the cable where it connects to the speedometer. does anyone know what kinda lube or whatever to use?

id reccomend buying a new cable if you go through all the trouble of pulling out the speedo to lube it. It's 17 years old, might as well replace it anyways, right? Besides, it's only $15 at your local auto parts store. A new cable comes with the lube for it too.

the cable was actually replaced a year ago because my car overheated once and it melted through
