Default Another Gear Question....

My 90 GT only has a cai, and full exhaust. It is an AOD and I'm looking to buy new gears. I rarely drive it but I want to get something that gets up to speed fairly quik but doesnt lose a lot of top speed, if thats possible. Any suggestions.

3.73's or 3.55's if you want something with more top end, but how often are you going to be going that fast that you need to have a high top end, i think those gears won't bring it down very much

4.10 gears and possibly a 2500 stall convertor the aod has a higher ratio 1st gear vs the t-5 I believe in my 85 it was 2.64 vs 3.35 of a t-5 I had 3.73's and a 2000 stall and it still wasn't enough off the line. would hardly squeal the tires and the motor was far from stock =cam intake head work exhaust pullies ect ect.....

well yes!!! I went from 2.73 to 3.73's then I ditched theaod in favor of a t-5so I never made it to the 4.10 swap all I know is 3.73's with the aod didn't give we the umpth off the line I wanted and I even had a 2000 stall convertor in it.. however I'm building a rear soon with 4.10's

So 3.73's will show a promising effort with the AOD. Can you throw 4.10's in with an auto.

3.73 WILL be better than what you got now but 4.10's for the may be a better choice like I said I didn't like/not enough off the line for me. but everyones diffrent with 3.73's highway cruise was only at 2300 remember the aod has overdrive so you should be fine with 4.10's but any gear change will effect fuel mileage

summit, jegs or a place called yukon gear sells inexpensive gears like 120.00 to 140.00 a set I believe pick up a mag like muscle mustangs and fast fords and there are tons who advertise gears thereand cheaper prices than summit or jegs but sometimes I hate the search hassle so I just call summit
