Default MSD dist.

I posted this a few days ago and only got one idea. My stang quit on the way to work and i realized i did not have any spark. After checking my digital 6 plus and ruling that out, i took out my MSD dist. and it was missing about 5 teeth(i hope they are all at the bottom of pan, will find out when i pull engine). Any ideas on what caused this? Was not driving hard at all when it happened. I stopped and got breakfast, got back in the car and started driving and it cut out, My dumba## realized i did not turn my fuel pump on. Turned the pump on and she started right back i was in third when when it quit so when it started i was still in third at low RPM's. Then it cut out again with no spark this time. I guess the gear already had some weakness and that was just the straw that, you know the rest. Any ideas?

Thanks
Keith

Mallory ftw. I'd shine a light down your distributor hole and crank the engine a bit (slowly, by the crank bolt) and make sure your cam gear still looks ok. It'll be real bad if that goes out

Welli finally got the nerve up to take my distr. off and see what i could find. My cam gear is good. The rod that drops below the dist. to run oil pump broke off. It must have locked up the oil pump. Not sure if oil pump seized or dist. seized but the rod in the bottom of dist. broke off and you can see it down there. I believe the oil pump locked up first either from bad dist. or bad oil pump but before the rod broke it locked up my dist, stripped five teeth and then the rod broke off inside the engine. It sounds bad but is better than i expected(i always expect the worse) because i was going to have to pull my engine any to find the teeth(hopefully in the bottom of oil pan), and while i am doing that i will be right there at oil pump. Reason it took me so long is i ordered a longblock for my truck, which is my dd, and it will be here tom. Going to install that and then pull the stang engine to fix my problem.

Also i have msd coil and digital 6 plus as well. I am assuming any after market dist. will work with this? Leery of buying another msd dist. if in fact it was my dist. that caused problem. But it could have been my oil pump. Wont know untill i pull engine. Any opinions on a good aftermarket dist..

wait wait wait..... i dont like msd but his dizzy didnt cause this. the guys oil pump siezed and took out the dizzy gear (and the oil pump driveshaft.

get yourself an arp hardened oil pump driveshaft and melling makes a oil pump that supports the bottom of the gears in the oil pump so they arent just riding on the cover plate. thats the pump you want to get for a replacement.

you should be able to buy a replacement dizzy gear, and throw that sucker back in there
