Default ECU problems

So my car started running poorly a month or so after i got my top end kit installed. It just doesnt have near the power i used to, and the botom end is really dead. I took it back to the shop that installed the kit and they worked on it all day and could find nothing wrong with it other than a very blocked fuel filter. Replaced that, and it still drove like crap. I took it back recently and he went over it all again (though i had an exta 02 bung installed so they could hook it up to their computer), and he seems convinced that there is some problem with the ecu. Is it common for their to be problems with the ecu's on these cars? Do you think this is just the cop out of a mechanic who cant find the real problem?

B-I-N-G-O........why?.....I don't see any results from the self-tests (KOEO + KOER + Cylinder balance + Continuous Monitoring)....which are standard diagnostic routines when you have problems with the EEC-IV/OBD-I systems.....I mean, you could install an extra O2 bung to check A/F with a wideband controller, but have they checked what the regular O2 sensors are reading and what the ECU is doing with that information?......next thing you'll hear is that you need a "tune" to take care of the symptoms.......
