RE: what could cause this
With out knowing the year of the car it's hard to make an accurate stabb but if it has the original carb on it most fords had a little filter that screws on to the fuel bowl it's the fuel filter and as they begin to plugg up the car or truck in my case starts to bogg down and lose power at lower an lower rpm's as it becomes clogged .I ran numerous test on my truck with a 351 in it even had a fuel pressure gauge teed in right before the filter and didn't think til afetr I 'd tried all methoods and angles of troubleshooting to unscrew this filter at the carb and tried to blow through it and turned purple in the face trying too!! so if it has this set up try that

I dont know th exact year of the motor. It has a holly carb on it and i found out it didnt have fuel filters in it so if a little bit of contamints got ing the jets could this cause the problem. I already went ang boughtnew filter to put in.

Is the carb tight? It could've loosened up and now you have one hell of a vacuum leak.
Also, check the plugs. Make sure all the electrodes are there. I literally burned 4 set of plugs out to the point where they had no electrodes left and it would have a really bad miss at higher rpm's.

just my own experience. I had a distributor go bad by the actual shaft that went into the engine wore down the out cover. thereby allowing the shaft to wobble. I replaced the disributor and it solved my problem. However mine only happened why i idled and not at higher RPMs.
