If you're talknig GT-40 and not GT-40P, then you'll want Autolite 24s.

Colder spark plugs work by conducting heat away from the firing tip more quickly. By doing that, it helps reduce the risk of detonation.

If I want colder plug what do I need to try?
I have some autolite # AP25 platinum. I am thinking about a step cooler, to ward off the chronic slight ping. Is that going to fix it ?

It will help some, depending on how to you're running in there. If you're getting detonation, check your base timing (unless you have a tuner) and make sure you're using higher octane fuel. And for the love of God LOSE THOSE PLATINUM PLUGS!!!
