1990 Mustang trans question
I'm about to buy a 1990 mustang convertable but I have one major question. The trans in the mustang is completely shot, it only has 1st and 2nd gear with no reverse. My question is, I found a C4 trans for 75 bucks and was wondering if this will bolt up tp the motor (302) and to the trans mount? Also will the stock driveshaft work?
Thanks

RE: 1990 Mustang trans question
However, I should add that, the C4 tranny has two different types of bellhousings. A large bellhousing and a smaller one. The smaller one requires a 157 tooth flexplate, and the larger one requires a 164 tooth flexplate. Now the AOD has a 164 tooth flexplate. So, if its the large bellhousing, you'll be fine. But if its the smaller bellhousing, you'll need the 157 tooth flexplate. Also, you'll need a C4 torque converter.

RE: 1990 Mustang trans question
you'll need a special flex plate if your tranny is an aod then you'll need a c-4 flexplate that is balance for a 50oz motor. and you'll have to rework the cooler lines a little and shift linkage.

same to you too!!! the 157 is more rare and came in mustang II's so yess you'll need a flexplate for the 157 tooth bell housing balanced for a 50 oz motor also
