Exhaust Question

OK so i just installed some bbk equal length shortys on my 89 gt and I'm ready to do the rest of the exhaust -- I'm thinking an o/r bbk x pipe with an slp catback, but my local exhaust shop could run 2 1/2 inch stainless straight from the headers to the back with flowmaster super 44's for a lot less -- So is this a good idea? Is there gonna be a sound/performance loss with straight pipes rather than an x or h pipe? Is there a difference? I want it as loud as possible -- No cats either way -- Thanks

RE: Exhaust Question

if you want loud dont put mufflers but atleast keep the cross section to equalize exhaust flow

RE: Exhaust Question

On a mostly otherwise stock engine. Too much free area (not enough backpressure) can cause a power loss. You can let your muffler shop do whatever you want, but the kits that are available for these cars are well engineered and well built. Also the tubing is mandrel bent so the inside diameter of the pipe is maintained through-out the bends. A push/pull bender that local shops use will sacrifice the ID of the pipe to make the bends. I don't know how loud you want your car, but there are plenty of loud systems with mufflers available.

if you want an x-pipe you should get it from Pypes. thats what i put on mine, it was cheaper and honestly i like the quality better. not to mention my car sounds mean as hell now.
