override transmission
The 91 coupe I'm hoping to buy this week has the override transmission.I don't plan on driving this car very hard until I get another truck.I plan on buying a BBK cold air intake and long tube headers in the future.I also want to go with lower gears. It already has a flowmaster exhaust.I just want a nice/strong street car.
Are these transmissions very dependable and can they handle much power?I know when I get to changing cams and maybe heads that the trans. will probably need to be beefed up.What's your opinions on this. This will be my daily driver.

RE: override transmission
Do you mean overdrive transmission? If so, you'llhear a lot of haters, I just ignore them. It can be a very dependable transmission if you take car of it. If you're looking to make some big horsepower numbers get it rebuilt with stronger internals, do some VB mods and throw in a higher stalling torque converter. As for the BBK cold air intake, it's just if your looking to make more power with it, check your PM's. The first mods should really depend on your plans for the car.

RE: override transmission
On an 86 I had I went through 3 stock automatics with relatively no power. But I beat on the car pretty badly. Putting longtubes in with an aod (fords automatic overdrive transmission) is pretty tricky. The only company that I'd really go with that are decent are hookers but there headers need to be recoated or they will rust up pretty quick. If you want to spend big $$$ on headers bassani makes them as well but they aren't what I'd call affordable. Mac also makes headers that fit an auto but I'd stay away from them. The headers warp pretty badly if you ever take them off.
