auto trans question

alright, im no auto guy at all, ask me a manual question and i got ur back... but auto... just never messed w. them. so ok on the the question... my buddy has an old f100 custom. and is swaping out the straight 6 and putting in a 351w. he wants to go w. an auto, and keeps telling me he wants a c4 or c6... i think this is a dumbass idea because its going to be his only vehicle and itll be dumb to get something w. out overdrive

so whats a good trans with over drive thatll hold up to that powerplant?

RE: auto trans question

think the C6 weighs more and a built C4 can handle 700 hp or even more

If hes not worried about gas mileage a c4 or c6 would be the way to go. C4 is much lighter and is much cheaper then a c6 or overdrive transmission. I'm not a fan of aods because they are heavy, very big, and really live up to there nick name slush box. They can be built like any other transmission though.

I love my AOD. The guy that's going to build mine has a stock rebuilt AOD with a shift kit in his 193X (can't remember the exact year)coupe street/strip car. It's behind a 351w that's been worked over and the trannyhasn't given him a single slip. If you don't properly take care of something it will turn to ****.
