RE: can i port/hog out anything on upper intake?
Ported the intake to accept a 70mm TB
knifed all the runners
after I welded it back up
the line is where it was cut then welded
This is the only picture of the lower, I welded the front 2 runners so I could straighten them out.
here it is all painted and back together...still looks stock

Ok I didn't get as fancy as 5.0stanger, didn't have access to the equipment to cut and weld the intake and didn't need to because I have an explorer intake that I will use in my final assembly. I was only interested in porting to fit my 70mm EGR & TB to smooth the flow a bit. No pictures of the lower where I port matched it but here is the finished upper compared to a stock upper;
And compared to the explorer GT40;
And one better close up of the inside of the explorer where if you look at the ported stock of mine and 5.0stanger's you can see how much the inner neck is restrictive is compared to an untouched explorer GT40.
Hope this helps.

The smaller one is the same as the ported one in side, It is just so carbon coated black you cant see it. I don't have an untouched stock upper handy or I would take a better picture to show you.

Yeah, that looks like some gains to be had there. So it really ports wide open like that without getting too close to the walls? I'm building an engine to put into a '94, and I know the bits and pieces are going to eat me alive, so I'm looking at some GT40p heads, and a e303 cam while the engines out, but may just port the crap out of the stock intake manifold until I find a good deal on an Explorer intake.
