Default Water temp and oil pressure gauge

OK i bought a water temp and oil pressure gauge (electric). My questions are the following:

1. Do I need to keep the stock sensors?
2. If I do, what kind (size) fittings do I need? I;m guessing I need some kind of a t-fitting to fit both the stock and the autometer sender?

1. You'll have to use the sensors that came with your new gauges, as the ranges/calibration will be different.

You can rig things so that both sensors will work, if you really want to, using t-fittings and so forth. I didn't bother though; I just use the new gauges.

I would just use the new gauges, don't even bother looking at the stock gauges. The new gauges will also come with a sending unit, I know that the autometer ones do anyways. Good luck with the install, it's not too horrible.

so what you are saying is that the stock sender are not needed (as for the computer to read temperature or pressure) Is there separate senders through which the ECM reads temperature and pressure?

The ECM doesn't read oil pressure. The oil pressure sending unit wire goes directly to the gauge that is in your dash right now.The computerdoes monitor temperature, but there is a coolanttemperature sending unit (the one that you will be using for your new gauge) and a CTS (coolant temperature sensor)which is what the computer reads. You don't mess with the CTS, just the temperature sending unit.

ok awesome so I can get rid of the stock sensors and just plug in the autometer ones instead ... well that saves me a lot of "plumbing" planning ... thanks for the help
