Default Stuck bolts

Well I am replacing my water pump as we speak and I have now broken one bolt and have another that is so stuck I know I will break it if I really crank down on it. I know you all, as car guys, have your own ways of removing stuck bolts, and I was hoping you guys could share some of those with me.

there is a tool that looks like a drill bit. you make a hole a little smaller than the bolt witha drill bit, then you use this tool and screw it in. it gets wedged in there real tight and then you crank it back out and your bolt issue is gone.

or you can drill out your hole, and tap it again but then you need a bigger bolt. i advise next time anti seize

you have to pull of the timing cover if all else fails and snap on sells a tool that grabs the bolt and tightens as your try to loosen the bolt.
I had to do it that way good luck.

Thanks for your suggestions! It seems I heard somewhere that heating and cooling the bolt might help, any truth to this?

ok, ill start in on doing that then. at this point, if it doesnt work, ill probably just break this one too and drill/tap. Might go faster in the long run.

If it's the shank frozen to the aluminum water pump or housing you can try this.
Go ahead and break the head off. Remove the remaining bolts. Now twist and pry the housing off the headless bolt. It's probably the shank of the long bolt caked with corrosion from the water pump.

I did remove the water pump with that method, unfortunately, the bolts are still stuck in the engine block, I have about four inches of the bolt still to work with so hopefully with the heating/cooling method I will be able to get it out without drilling and tapping.
