i know it could be a sending unit thats going bad, but this has never happend to my car at normal operating temp, should i get a new gauge tho? a mechanical one? does that completely bypass the sending unit?

Bro if you are worried about spening the cash on oil...get out now. I have changed oil back to back day like 4 days in a row. **** happens you just have to deal with it. Oil is the life or you motor. Do not crap out and buy junk oil ither. fyi honestly 1/2 on the stock gauge is getting hot so pull over then. Spend some money on real gauges.

thats what I did, I pulled over, let it cool off. and then got stuck it traffic again, it was barely over 3/4 mark, damn really dont want to put new oil in, just spent 30bucks on an oil change.
