Default whats causing this??

just put a new 130a alt on and as I start it for the first time with the newalt my starter grinds againsnt the flywheel, its like its not disengaging, replaced the solenoid, same thing, replaced the relay, same thing, bench tested the starter, it passes, tookit apart and there is no physical damage that i can see, i tried disconecting the alt and starting it without it and the starter does the same thing, grinds against the flywheel for about 1-2 secongs and only after disengages, WHAT IS CAUSING THIS!!?? it used to never do this. so confused, help me out here,

bench testing a starter isn't always accurate...

it's sticking. replace the starter.

there should be a small wire usually it's a 90 degree elbow shaped wire that attaches to one leg on the starter selonoid that's mounted on your fender this is the wire that is hot/ has current on it in the crank position. this wire is the wire that has current on it to energize the windings inside the selonoid that bridges the hot always side of the selonoid to the starter side of the selonoid.......anyway put a test light on this wire and immediately after you release the ignition switch from the cranck posiotion to the rest/run position the light should go out... if not the problem rests in the ignition switch and no I don't mean where you stick the key usually down on top of the column there is a electrical portion for the ignition switch.. all the key and tumbler do is rotate as to push a rod to engage different contacts in side the switch. my bet is it's a sticking switch.

replaced the switch, didnt fix the problem though, does anyone know what the black/white wire that goes to the right side of the starter relay ( one that mounts on the fender) does? Or rather the big resistor type looking thing, its 1/2" by 1" thing thats got two terminals.
