Default Dropping k-member???

I have a 351 block with a moroso 7 qt oil pan. My oil pump seized and sheared about 5 teeth off of my MSD dist. I need to take oil pan off to recover any metal and replace oil pump. Was thinking about dropping the k-member insead of pulling engine. The tallest jackstands i have are the craftsman 3-ton. Would it be easier to pull the engine (which i have done) or drop the k-member to get the oil pan (have not done). I am thinking of trying something new unless people say it is a nightmare. Any helpful hints would be greatly appreciated and if any one knows of a post on the internet about it.

Thanks in advance MF members.
Keith

honestly if it's a stock oil pan all you have to do is unbolt the motor mounts and jack the motor up to remove the oil pan if you want even more clearence you can lower the k-member.... any of these two ideas are sure a lot quicker then pulling the motor

i would just lift the engine with a hoist, you should get enough clearence.dropping the stock k member isnt that bad, but you have to hold the engine up with a hoist anyway, so whats the point.

If you have an engine hoist, just pull the engine. That way you get to clean up the engine bay too why the engine is out.

Droping the k member is a peace of cake. All I did was loosened the motor mounts andjacked the engine up and held it up with a 2x4 across the strut towers with a block on both ends and droped the front suspension, it only took meabout 2 hours.

Engine bay is already smooth and clean. I have some pics in the link below. At first i was planning on pulling the engine so i could put it on my stand and check everything out good but i got to thinking about the k-member. I am still undecided, when i go out there in the morning i will decide. As far as a new k-member it is not in the budget right now i have already spent alot on the car and i just paid 1200 for a reman long block for my truck. The stang has been sitting for 3 weeks because i was trying to get my dd running. Just put the engine in today for truck, it runs good, so know i can focus attention on my toy.
