Default Installing TFS timing chain

I was wondering when installing the timing chain set that comes with the TFS H/C/I kit if anyone knew what the brass washer was for. The directions suck.I dont have the clearence issues with the thrust plate bolts that it was talking about. But I can not for the life of me figure out what is up with this brass ring. The car did not have one when I took it apart.

Is it nessecary? I didnt put it on, and everything seemed to be in line. The old double roller chain did not have a ring behind it.

it might be to take out the slack, i tried installing a TFS timing chain and after it was tightened down there was still a ton of endplay in the sprocket.

Well, I pulled it all back apart, and installed the washer. Everything looked ok. I still did not have to countersink the thrust washer bolts, so I guess I got lucky. Thanks for all the help.

you don't have to countersink the thrust plate bolts like they say u do. make sure you check the camshaft endplay though. when i installed mine i had to machine my thrust plate to get the correct endplay.
