Odd Stutter ? A/C Compressor ?

Odd Stutter ? A/C Compressor ?
My 89 GT has been acting a bit weird the last day or so. The symptom is that for a split second the engine will shutter/stutter, and then be normal. This happens only when the A/C is on, while in fourth gear (on AOD), at about 1600 RPM.
No codes, and when the A/C is off the symptom does not occur.
Could the compressor be going bad and binding everyonce in a while ? Is what I am feeling the binding and release of the compressor ?
Has anyone experianced anything like this ? I'd hate to have to tear down the A/C to find it is somethingelse.
