Default what year is my AOD?

Can anyone tell me what year AOD I just pulled outta my 88 GT? On the bellhousing were the numbers 55, and on the side of the tailshaft were the markings FF-F2TP-7A040-AA. Anyone know? thanks.

It sucks, cuz I bought a hi-performance rebuild kit for the 1980-1990 AOD, and now I may have a newer AOD.

it gets worse, some 92 aod's had a forged drum and others had a cast drum. you need to know which yours is before you can buy a rebuild kit

your best bet is to find a shop that will tear it open for you and tell you what you need. i found a guy that builds race trannys to do mine and he opened mine up and told me what i needed.........and did all the labor for $450!!

I did get lucky on the labor though. I have a guy that'll do it for only $100 on the side, and he built my friend's trans am tranny, and his still holds up.......

What material was the drum in the 90-earlier AODs? And what material is the drum in the 91-newer AODs?

Ok, I got some new info. On the side of the actual transmission, is the part # RF-E9BP-7006-AA. Any ideas?
